Yesterday’s happenings. Pharma lecture started at 12. Dr. Gupta entered the LT and the first question she asked was – “Have you seen the sun?” It became clear from mam’s words that there is a strange ring around the sun. Soon the class was abuzz with words like CERN, LHC, blackhole, cataclysm and such… “If something is really going to happen at 12.30, all of you are destined to read pharma for eternity it appears!”, madam warned us amidst roars of laughter. (I was clueless why everyone was referring to this particular time but remembered later that the LHC was switched on today at 1230 hours IST.) Anyways that was that. Soon we busied ourselves writing drug names of GnRH agonists and long acting GnRH analogues. Of course, immediately after the class everyone was looking at the sun with me taking utmost care not to look directly at it. I blocked the sun with my copy and asked a friend where the rainbow was and stole a quick glance at it. No UV rays please!
To me it looked like a rainbow in mid-sky. Although I have never seen a rainbow in mid-sky, it hardly looked like a prelude to cataclysmic changes! Check out the pictures below captured by Dr. John J. Sinha.

With the LHC inauguration coinciding with this rather bizarre natural phenomenon, there was quite a panic in the town as newspapers have reported today along with the scientific explanation of it. See TOI ‘Ring’ around sun causes scare.

চাদের চারদিকে এ জাতীয় রং ধনুর মতো কিছু দেখা যায়, মা খালাদের মুখে শুনেছি তখন চাদের সভা বসেছে বুঝতে হবে। এবার কি সুর্যের সভা শুরু হল? এ দৃশ্য আগে দেখেছি বলে মনে করতে পারছি না।
