It rained at night so it was cloudy all along. But then at 6 o’clock, it was darker than normal. One can never say, because in North Bengal it can get so overcast that it can turn very dark sometimes. So first I turned on the TV to look at the go happenings. Then at around 6:25, I stepped out to see the light and it grew dark. The sun got snubbed off and the day became night; the sky was the color of the night. On another morning, I would have been on my morning jog – I sure would not like to be on the road this hour I thought!
In the neighbor’s house, I could hear a woman singing a bhajan. A few people were shouting “whooooooo” in the distance as it got really dark. Then the light came back…as if the sun wanted vengeance…and the bhajan grew louder and faster and she started clapping as well. The earth was safe once again.
