‘Ranjana Ami Ar Ashbo Na’: Major Disappointment

Nipon Haque

Watched the all new much-hyped Anjan Dutt-movie Ranjana Ami Ar Ashbo Na (official website) at Priya Cinema this evening. Heard such raving reviews about it but the movie is hardly upto the mark! A good dose of antlami, a generous serving of Anjan’s melodrama and his love for the charm of Kolkata, mostly a poor storyline and major cliches and stereotypes. Our plan of a good movie outing misfired totally. But the meet was good as usual and I enjoyed our cha sessions before and after the movie.

On the plus side, it was a treat to watch the maestros Amyt Dutta, Nondon Bagchi, Lew Hilt rock on screen! Another thing I liked was the championing of a female band/pop singer. In the Bengali band music scene, female singers are few and far between and we really need more Ranjanas! Newcomer Parno Mittra may be no rockstar material, but she is a good choice as the innocent Bengali girl with dreams in her eyes. Now more on this movie, coming soon is an elaborate review. Stay tuned!

  1. Inspite of getting a lot many RAAAN flaws my pet buddies Niponova, Chadu, Hego and Nossi themselves made things better and this time was their tea attractions alongside matir bhar and i must say my dearest Nipon likes it the most !!

Coming to the film’s side: Viewing stalwarts like Skinny Alley-ian Amyt Dutta, Hip pocket-ian Nondon Bagchi and HFT-ian Lew Hilt alongside aces like Anjan Dutta and Kabir Suman altoghether definitely uplifts some standards of the film !! And Nipon I totally agree with you over our necessity of Bengali pop singers like Ranjana as we can find rare examples like that of Chandrani Banerjee of Krosswindz !! And Nipon what do you refer here by ATLAMI ?? I find the content to be very practical and natural one…I think may be not crossed the Madly Bangali standards, Anjan Dutta still did a fantastic job…and this pretty newbie called Parno Mittra will surely make her foothold strong with her this venture and i wish her loads of success in her upcoming T-town stints….

Now, let us wait until we learn the detailed review from the mad doctor called Chandradeep himself !! And yes Nipon thank you for sharing your this write-up, it is truly a text connection ;) :)

    1. Good points those Satavisha. The main problem with RAAAN lies in its slow pace and overuse of Anjan’s melodrama I think. Otherwise it had all the recipe for a great movie.

We did have a good time though and nothing like maatir bhar-er cha! :-)

Very important question there: what is antlami? I wonder how to define this much used term! May be the Rajarshi will come forward with his wisdom. This could well be the topic of discussion in our next adda session!

      1. Synes svagt at kunne erindre at man i “gamle, gamle dage” kunne fÃ¥ sÃ¥dan nogle hæslige orange gummidimsedutter der kunne pÃ¥monteres hanerne, og som sÃ¥ kunne blande vandet. SÃ¥dan nogle a la et stetoskop ( altsÃ¥ uden lyttegrej, men to gummirør, der samledes i ét.De kunne mÃ¥ske løse problemet? Ellers er det bare at bide tænderne sammen lidt endnu – og glædes

  2. Thank you my dearest Nipon…I think those were quite valid points for its disapprovement amongst the Anjan Dutt viewers !! And yes we will together ask our beloved friend Rajarshi to come up with his description regarding ATLAMI in our next time meet…

Anyways, thank you Nipon for that reply !! :)

    1. Thanks to you too dear! By the way, we did get a definition of Antlami in our last adda, right? An antel is someone who desperately tries to be an intellectual! Pseudo-intellectual could be a close meaning.

  3. Have you Seen ever tht one person is taking Aspirin wid alcohol !!!Very Funny..But songs are Good Enough For listening for such rainy Day’s here In North Bengal.

      1. Iris, you look very radiant and very natural in this FOTD! Love it! Btw, did you use First Light all over your face as a fisnihing powder? Is the Dior base able to cover the redness on your face? How does it compare with Anna Sui's new primer C (the purple one)?

      2. I have to show my respect for your kindness in support of people that have the need for help with in this subject. Your very own commitment to passing the message all over ended up being extremely insightful and has all the time permitted guys and women like me to arrive at their pursuits. Your entire important help indicates a whole lot to me and far more to my fellow workers. Thank you; from each one of us.

      3. Uh, Mrs. Editor, do you know something? Honest. Today I got an email from my ex who I haven’t spoken with in 17 years! He was reminding me that today would have been our 40th anniversary. Twilight Zone or something.
