It’s semester time for almost all engineering students around the country especially the ones under WBUT in the state of West Bengal including me and eventually and obviously it brings me on the occasion of buying our most coveted book cum reference cum suggestion cum guide serving all purposes, theoretical to practical, ethical and unethical, analytical and psychological and many more – MATRIX. Ask any engineering student, the answer is always Yes. As engineering and technology is a vast field of study comprising of some dozens of streams and hundreds of subjects both common and uncommon to all the streams, its very tiresome and hectic and sometime impossible for the students and faculties to sum up the huge syllabi in the short period of time provided, say three months maximum barring all festivals and holidays. Moreover I personally being in the course for six semesters already, could realize how strenuous task it is to collect notes going through different books of different authors , both national and international, specially before the examinations. Well, one may question why not study throughout the semester . The instant answer to this maybe the course structure, with number of laboratory works, projects, seminars and sessionals, it’s not always possible to keep a track. So the most easy solution is the matrix . Written by renowned faculties of renowned colleges & published by Matrix Educare Pvt . Ltd ., it is a syllabus oriented reference series as the say. Whatever material is there in the syllabus, is covered in matrix in simple language both as a text and in question-answer form. It is printed in web integrated edition and has got logo and ISO certification . It’s web address is www.matrixeducare.com It’s even helpful for the students who for some reasons have missed number of classes. Matrix is available for almost all subjects and costs one hundred and ninety five bucks only, which can be available at a lower price after discount. Above all it has got online forums dealing with various activities like student-faculty discussion session, problem clarification, test series etc. And if you go to College Street, Kolkata, you will see the long ques to get one copy of matrix in hand. So it’s a good business option for booksellers also. Though some of the allegations that matrix is a ‘xerox material’ of some books and writing style is not that great, is to some extent acceptable, I would still vote for it, after all it’s a package and is nothing can be 100% beneficial.

true to every syllable.when I got into the college each and every senior told us about the matrix but at first I had a feeling that it can’t be that great….now after 6 semesters I realize Matrix is the saviour…..
do u know mainak that matrix is a wrost one …..we cant get any basic ideas from matrix . so just put it on to fire……..let it burn..
I agree with you totally Mainak, but I really doubt whether there is any such book for students of other university.
Amartya, you mean matrix is meant for WBUT students in particular? Not any other university, from other states..?
Well it’s oriented with WBUT syllabi mainly, others can read it, but I don’t know whether it’s recommended
I guess its for only engineering people. I have never heard any of my B.Sc friends to refer any book named ‘matrix’ as such!!
whatever it is… the folks behind ‘matrix’ sure deserve praise!! is it available for each and every engineering subject?
well not really, for instance my stream Automobile engineering hasn’t got any matrix barring the subjects common to mechanical engineering, or any other.Actually it’s written with a view to serve a no. of streams u know.
can anybody tell me if there is any website offering matrix for free download as we often come across for different books???
well I am afraid there’s no such website as it is a ready reference handbook type referring syllabus and not a book. But in book market u can get it in a very cheap price. And once you get 1st copy of matrix, with a unique code, you can register online in matrix website and can have free discussion.
please correct the mistakes in Electronics book.Otherwise a good book for scoring good marks in EXAM.
Well Samrat, I must say you are correct, there are a number of mistakes. But the publishers are informed regularly about those. From your side you also write to them through the website, that would be of great help.
Well from what appears from the above discussion, I guess Matrix is basically a book meant for exams… a ‘chot’ book to be precise! as we Bongs say. This is good actually. In medical stream too, we have books somewhat similar to this type – called as prep manuals – that are exam oriented. But they are from good publishers and free of errors unlike Matrix. However, these books are never exhaustive and we have to go by the standard textbooks only to score good enough marks. The advantage is we get an idea how to prepare for the exams. For example, Medicine Prep Manual.
Yes you are right, but better to call it a guide book. Actually they are copied materials prepared consulting a number of good text books. But what one gets lucrative in hand is the examination paper solved in it and problems etc.
I cannot even think of semester examinations without matrix.it is truly a bible for all wbut engineering students.once u have a matrix in your hand u can finish off the entire sem syllabus within a week.and more importantly its very easy to prepare chothas from matrix… so matrix really rocks…..
chotha ???? hahaha!!
ha! don’t u think that besides matrix textbooks chothas are also essential for wbut sem exams…. without chotha…. wbut sem exams have got no meaning… and its easy to prepare chothas from matrix which everyone will agree….. so matrix zindabad!!
hey, don’t get emotionally carried away, whatever you are telling is not only true for WBUT exams, but other exams too…but it sounds odd publicly, isn’t it?
but just think for a while….. whether it is unethical to appear for sems with chothas.. when chunks of our syllabus remain unfinished.. and the lack of adequate faculties and proper infrastucture….. we don’t really get to learn anyting from colleges…… besides its not possible to take pvt tutions after shelling out almost 5000 bucks per month……
well I would say you are partly true and in Bengal there are so many of them just wasting money behind it without learning anything, just to get a name or an easier graduation certificate not going into the shell shocking CU course, in theoretical pandemonium. There should be a change in the thought process within the faculties and students as well.Well I’m planning to come up with a post on this in some time. But again, Rome was not built in one day, isn’t it?
ya i totally agree dat rome was not built in a day but consistent efforts are required to build it… in wbut the authorities are hardly interested to look into the problems of students.they are just doing brisk business….looting money every sem in the name of so called exams….and results never tally with our performance… the main problem is dat wbut has not taken any step to improve…they shud reduce our sem syllabi…..which is as heavy as syllabi of 2 yrs in other indian univs….. ensure a transparent exam system…… well i would also like to say dat i joined wbut to become a graduate without much perseverence…..but i never imagined before dat the standard of wbut can be this much low!! at least marks in xam shud be given according to our performance…here lies the main dissapointment
Sure matrix is our final hope when we start preparing the day before exam. But I abhor matrix, it’s so full of mistakes & injurious to brain, printing mistakes, conceptual ones, unnecessary idiotic explanations….if only they could wrap it neatly in 50 pages/subject.
