[poll id="4"]On the 1st of March 2009, two of my friends and I decided to go to Kolkata Auto Expo 2009 which was going on at the Helipad ground, Yuvabharati Krirangan (salt lake stadium), Kolkata. Our main target was to get a good overview of the newly launched member of the Mahindra and Mahindra family, the Xylo, which claims to give the sedans a knockout. Being a hardcore Mahindra fan I was most eager to check out the newborn’s ability to give an edge over the other’s, specially in this period of recession; moreover the Chevrolet Tavera and Toyota Innova were in a way doing fine in this particular sub sector of MUV’s (Multi Utility Vehicle). But I wasn’t disheartened. First let me jot down the specifications, then I would put forward my opinion.
- Engine: mEagle CRDe
- Capacity: 2498cc
- Power: 112bhp@3800rpm
- Torque: 24kgm@1800-3000rpm
- Brakes: Front disc, rear drum
- Front suspension: Independent coin spring
- Rear suspension: Multi-link coil spring
- Ground clearance:186mm
- Turning radius: 5.4m
- Tyre: 215/75 R15
Price range: 6.3 – 7.9 lac
Mileage : 14-19km/lt in depending on roads
Now coming to my opinion, firstly I would say the price range is quite affordable and lucrative, after-all it’s Mahindra, and the Mahindra people always make their vehicles for the masses, easy to get- good to enjoy. Looking into the performance also it can answer the critic’s questions; Power as high as 112bhp@3800rpm and peak torque@ range of 3000 rpm is something really mind blowing and thus diminishes the Vibration chances at high range. Also the design, especially the lights, edges which has been given a typical Mahindra notch shades and internal arrangements have got minute perfections.
Coming to the point of comfort I would say it has again done justice to what the public demand could be from this keeping aside the Bolero or Scorpio. The third row of seats, is to be reached folding the second row one’s, like in Sumo Grande or Innova. Butterfly panes is used at the rear instead of sliding glasses. Legroom in all the seats is just as per need. Provision of A/C vent is there in all the sections along with reading light. Also one will find drop-down food trays in the seats.
Speaking of the digital implementations, there is the Digital Drive Assist system which calculates mileage, distance traveled, fuel consumed, distance the car will travel with remaining fuel, gear position, speed and excitingly how long will the fuel last.
So considering all these and also getting ABS and air bags within this price range is just a mouth watering package in comparison to Innovas and Taveras with same facilities, which would range to at least more than rupees ten lac.
