When Rahul Roy Chowdhury, my bosom friend from school, told me over phone about his plans to launch electronic cigarettes in the Indian market a year ago, I din’t take him seriously. While he kept saying that it was going to be a big leap from conventional cigarettes, I was confused and found it hard to believe that there existed things called electronic cigarettes. To my surprise, he came on Google Video Chat and showed an electronic cigarette live in action!
More surprise followed when weeks later we got a hands on feel of the e-ciggie in one of our friendly addas and we were like: “Man, this thing works!” This year in August, Rahul went on to officially launch his own brand of electronic cigarettes in the market. Enter Foschia – a product of RRR Chemicals i.e. Rahul’s company. I became the prestigious owner of the first pack of Foschia! :D On Rahul’s request, I am writing a review of this unique product.
The electronic cigarette: look, feel and taste
The electronic cigarette looks very much a normal cigarette to me, only slightly longer. There is even a LED light at the tip that lights up red every time you take a puff. What you inhale and exhale instead of the smoke is a vapour, white in colour and almost resembling smoke. The kick you get on smoking is of course there, thanks to the nicotine.
These cigarettes come in different flavours like tobacco, menthol, etc. The taste is near-exact like normal cigarettes but the feeling of warmth is lacking, my friends who are into smoking complain. Which is apparent as there is no burning involved.
The cartridge containing the liquefied nicotine is replaceable and is the only running cost of the device. The cartridges come in ‘zero’, ‘medium’ and ‘high’ nicotine varieties. So if you choose to cut down on nicotine completely you can go for the nicotine-free cartridges.
Contents of smoke in conventional cigarettes
When tobacco is burned, the resultant smoke contains 4000 other compounds in addition to nicotine. The smoke is composed of a fine aerosol and a vapor phase. The aerosolised particulate phase contains a large number of toxic constituents and carcinogenic compounds and is responsible for the bulk of the toxicity and carcinogenecity of the smoke. The vapor phase contains carbon monoxide, respiratory irritants, and ciliotoxins as well as many of the volatile compounds responsible for the distinctive smell of the cigarette smoke.
Benefits of electronic cigarettes
The electronic cigarette delivers vaporized nicotine to the smoker. The battery-power atomizer takes care of the vaporization. By cutting down on tobacco, combustion and hence the smoke, electronic cigarettes claim to be a safer alternative to smokers as much of the health risks associated with smoking can be attributed to the cigarette smoke.
However, the adverse affects of nicotine will still be there.
I am sure Rahul is putting all he learned during his MBA years in right use. He has to make sure Foschia is properly marketed if he wants it to reach everyone. According to Rahul, although the initial price to get a pack of Foschia may be high but in the long run it comes cheaper than normal cigarettes if you consider the price of cartridges.
My Take
I recommend no smoking at all and endorse no form of cigarettes. While electronic cigarettes are fancy and apparently probably without many of the side effects of conventional cigarettes, there needs to be more clinical studies to ensure nicotine containing electronic cigarettes are completely safe. The nicotine-free cigarettes are very much welcome though – these could be a major help for people trying to quit.

All the sections and the facts that was mentioned by Nipon are true to the core which has been sketched out beautifully…The point of adverse affects of nicotine that still remains there in e-ciggarettes surely provides an important juncture to the whole concept !! The last section has been stated with a perfect mind, its really important to share our stand-points amidst of awarenesses….Your thought of clinical studies for ensurances is totally a commendable one… Your knowledge definitely attracts us to a positive note…
Kudos to you Nipon dear for this sincere effort, just a thumbs up for you,i’m sure many more writings like this will surely come up on your way very soon !!!

I will not pretend to be an expert on this because well, it is a new product, and it is yet to be seen how this goes down with time. What I think is Foschia is a nice name, and with a little tinkering could make it sound like fucks-ya, which is not quite a good thing. But then again, if you are going to swig long and hard at the Bong to get a Buzz, you might as well try out a fancy schmancy option like this!
What about the cost considerations? How much do the nicotine packs nick outta out pockets? :P
Fuschia or no fucshia nicotine definetly f***s ya…!!!
From where I can purchase it in reaonable cost. What is delivery system & payment options.
Which one in better for long term use, IE- Atomised cartridges with battary or Separate Atomizer & Cartridges with battary.
Can I purchase it from Delhi (IN person)
Please reply soon
Please send details about this on purchase & cost & delivery system
This is shit..
IT STILLhas nicotine it hence hold carcinogenic potential. This is just to hoodwink people into death. SUCH MISLEADING PRODUCTS SHOULD BE BANNED
Dr, Nipon mentions that it is “apparently” without conventional side effects. This is just a case of unethical endorsment by yet another doctor. Smoking does hot have side effects It CAUSES Lung Cancer and a whole lot of disease,
Kindly elaborate on this “apparent ” and let the world know about any scientific studies (if at all) which shows this apparency.
I hope Doctors will resist from such unethical marketing tactics and help improve
the already dwindling respect of my proffession
Looking forward to a clarification from the author or this post being taken down!!!
I dont think nipon is getting any advantage by writing bout it in this blog but this definetly comes into consideations of conflict with the Hippocrates Code. Ethical Blogging is the need of the hour for doctors else we do risk loosing respect in the eyes of the public.
You are right. I should have chosen my words carefully.
I meant e-cigarettes are probably safer than conventional cigarettes. Surely, such a claim needs to be backed by clinical trials.
Thanks for the constructive criticism. I have edited the post.
@nipon at one point in ur blog u do mention that advers effects of nicotine still esixt and also u mention that thay r apprntly w/o side effects of conventional smoking.. please clear ur stand and back it with evidence ..to clear this mess.. it is best avoding writing bout detrimental to health stuff.//
I said apparently without *many* of the side effects.
Of course I am not vouching for safety of e-cigarettes. I am in no position to do that. I think I made it clear in the post that there needs to be clinical trials before making any statement on the ‘safety’ of electronic cigarettes.
Doesn’t say anything till not tasted!!!
