Dr. Anjan K Das

Dr. Anjan K Das (MS, MCh) is a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon. At 51, he shows such enthusiasm and zest that will put even teenagers to shame. His activities include mountaineering, trekking, going to wildlife expeditions and last but not the least working among the rural poor. After many years of teaching at various medical colleges, he is now into freelance practice and based in Siliguri for the last 4 years. He also keeps himself busy with editing a magazine and building a cardiac hospital. He has now moved to Kualalumpur to collaborate in a research project on stem cells. He is a founder-member & the secretary of Green, an organisation aiming to improve the environment in and around Siliguri - see The Telegraph. His entry to the blogging world was inspired by young students whose company he enjoys most. He maintains his own blog Reflections. His blogs reflect his passion for mountains and wildlife and his concern for the environment.

He is perhaps the most known name in the world of online Bengali literature. Equally adept in both prose and poetry, he writes in a number of Bengali web mags. Not just writing, he has established himself as a talented artist as well having designed the layout of each and every issue of Sristi, an online magazine edited by him. His first book Pizza Balok, a collection of short poems, was published on June 16, 2008 at Bangla Academy. He is a software engineer by profession working for Infosys. 'Safo', his satirical take on the life of a software engineer, written in an amusing style in the lines of Bankimchandra's 'Babu', has amused many a soul and forwarded thousands of times!

Her voice was rough, alternating between girlish highs and deep huskiness. A tiny white mole perched below the inner corner of the left eye called attention to the perfection of the eyes, to the carved out length that just stopped short of protruding out from her face, white smoke drifted up from her full lips, shrouding those large, dark, kohl-rimmed eyes. There was a fullness about the face, an almost plumpness that hinted at the soft fleshiness hidden below the silky folds of her cashmere scarf. Her head tilted slightly upwards and those dark eyes half shut with the pleasure as she took a long drag from the white-tipped Marlboro Red held delicately between the very tips of her index and middle-finger. And then she spoke, the white smoke mingling with her words. Listen-
