Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani

by Syamantak Basu on November 10, 2009

Aj ke liye no sorry, kal ke liye no worry

This is the theme of the ‘HAPPY CLUB’ led by the boy next door in Ranbir Kapoor as its president. Enabling people to live happy lives, Ranbir makes a remarkable entry in the movie on a ‘brake-free’ cycle taking down a goon and saving the day for the people.

This hilarious comedy illustrated by a brass statue, does have its emotional bend but not before making the audience laugh to some rib tickling stuff. Ranbir has genuinely matured over the last few movies, and he has delivered yet another good performance.

The director, Raj Kumar Santoshi, has made very vivid descriptions of the pains of an adopted child in the present day society and how the child finally finds true love. The cutest part in the movie comes when both Katrina and Ranbir find out that both ‘stammer when upset’.

Katrina as usual is looking sensually sweet all throughout the movie and gives a strong performance, she is on the verge of establishing herself as the most favourite face of Indian Cinema.

Not to mention, cameos from Salman Khan and Upen Patel do add icing on this cake.

The movie is well balanced on both sides of the interval and there is a significant element of magic in the movie with the talking statue and a shooting star. The movie does live up to its name of curiosity.

Last but not the least the movie has some wonderful heart touching music for the keen audience to savour upon.

Overall this comedy cum action cum emotional pan-cake is worth more than a watch.

Rating: ★★★½☆

Tuccho (2008) by Cactus

by Chandradeep on November 9, 2009

cover_2008Released in 2008, this material is a bit too old for reviewing…I understand, but heck, Nipon wanted me to do this anyway so here it is…
Formed in the year 1992 the bangla-band Cactus has come a long way in the bangla rock scene…it’s been almost two decades!!! With songs like Shudhu tumi ele na, Halud pakhi, Mon, Bodhu re that Cactus belted over the years, we melted…we cheered…we sang along…we screamed our lungs out along with our heart…we held our loved ones and cried…

With the changing rock scene worldwide, Cactus answered back with their new sound and a new line up in this fourth album Tuccho released in 2008! With songs like Kobita dao, Masiha, Raater pori their experiments with alt-rock, punk-rock and rap are clear. And there’s the trademark Cactus ballads as well like Phire chawa, Bhalo theko, Shabdhane raasta perio, Pokkhiraj…but I gotta say this I really miss Pota’s vocals which worked magic with ballads! But it’s time to move on i guess…

All I can say to the ardent fans of Cactus and to all the bangla rock lovers who have already bought this CD, is.. kudos Cactus did it again! and to those who haven’t had the chance to listen to this album yet…please do give Tuccho a try and I promise you’ll not regret it!

Hope Cactus continues to quench the thirst of all it’s fans for many more decades to come!
