Antaheen~

by Tamali on March 18, 2009

Antaheen the latest Bengali film is a splendid effort by the talented Tollywood director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury. Antaheen which means ‘endless’ is a word which depicts endless waiting for attaining the so called destinies of love and faith. The story of Antaheen shows the different shades of human emotions. This is the second venture of Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury after his successful directional debut ‘Anuranan’.

The cast includes actors like Rahul Bose, Aparna Sen, Sharmila Tagore, Radhika Apte, Kalyan Ray, Meeta Vashist, Rudranil Ghosh, Barun Chanda, Saswati Guha Thakurta, Shauvik Kundagrami, Biswajit Chakraborty, Kunal Padhy, etc.

The story revolves around Abhik Chaudhury (Rahul Bose), an IPS Officer, Brinda Roy Menon (Radhika Apte), a bright young journalist, Ranjan and Paromita. Abhik and Brinda are friends in the virtual world of the internet without knowing about each other’s name and whereabouts. Paromita and Ranjan, a couple who have separated a few years ago on the pretext of searching and restoring back the love they shared, form the connection between Abhik and Brinda. Ranjan is Abhik’s cousin brother and a dear friend and Paromita is a senior marketing executive with media where Brinda is the junior colleague and friend.

The film portrays an urban love story shot entirely in Kolkata at various locations across town. Every character in the film has been portrayed beautifully. Director of Photography by Avik Mukhpadhyay is very fresh and mood effecting. The story is set in a modern environment and blackberrys and laptops have become the part and parcel of the daily life of the characters depicted. Proper editing has made the movie very smart and fast paced.
The music of Antaheen comprises of six tracks composed by Shantanu Moitra sung by Shaan, Shreya Ghoshal, Antara Chowdhury, Babul Supriyo and Chandrabindoo frontman Anindya. The music is soothing having a feel of the eighties with a very modern touch.
Thus Antaheen now celebrating its fifty days is a great watch.

13B – the vastu exposition

by Amartya Ghosh on March 15, 2009

I generally watch movies at night, after dinner for an hour or two. But this time I being informed previously about the level of horror this latest release ‘13B’ is going to provide, I didn’t take risk and decided to close the chapter well before dinner. And as soon as the movie ended I couldn’t stop myself from making the synopsis. It’s a remake of Vastu Shastra but in a different plot. The charismatic south Indian superstar Madhavan plays the pivotal and unveils the mystery of the story. I would admit that my friend wasn’t wrong totally considering the director’s ability to keep the suspense alive till the end. Frankly speaking, the number of characters, their activities were enough to mess up ones thought if he/she is concentrating deep. The story portrays the fate of a joint family residing at flat number 13B of a particular apartment where thirty years back used to be another well to do joint family but all of whose members were brutally killed. Reading till this one may presume the fate. This new family faces all odd, eerie, supernatural incidents as an effect of the what is called ‘bhatakti atma’ psychologically meaning unsatisfied, unholy roaming about souls of dead men. But in this case for a change of taste the director used television as a medium of the particular soul to spread its trepidation and later on moved on to a mobile phone for the same purpose; and why not, afterall technology meets trust. In a was it was a good time pass though there were a number of marked loop holes and unclarified incidents. Director Vikram Kumar though couldn’t create an appeal, but didn’t copy the Ram Gopal Verma style at least. For regular movie viewers it’s just another one.For friends, just go and chill.

Rating: ★★★☆☆
