Colours-in the hit list

by Amartya Ghosh on November 5, 2008

No,I am not delivering a lecture on red, green, yellow and so and so,about their effect on our eyes etc. What I am trying to write about is Colours-the new TV channel from Viacom18,which is a new buzz in the world of entertainment. As Big-B Amitabh Bachhan became a transformer of hope for Star Plus with is Super duper hit reality show Kaun banega Crorepati, for Colours a bunch of then played the pivotal, starting from Fear Factor-Khatron Ke Khiladi ,to Big Boss Season2 till Balika Vadhu. Not only these helped the channel to take the second postion just after Star plus unseating Zee Tv, it immediately shot up from 81 GRP(gross rating points) to 250 GRP in the last few weeks. It has also grabbed a channel share of 20% just 2% behind Star Plus.As per CEo Rajesh Kamat,Balika Vadhu which potrays a child bride Anandi’s tryst with womanhood, has been the factor for the recent development giving a tough fght to Star plus’s Bidayi and Zee Tv’s very popular Saath Phere.Even as in BigBoss 2,the house which gives more or less unnoticed celebrities to face the camera, maybe in swimsuit or bermuda, was left behind by this little girl, already blessed by Mr.Bachhan.Though reportedly,Akshay Kumar, the host of Khatron Ke Khiladi, charged a lumpsome amount of around Rs.40 crore from the company quite withstanding Colours, through highest Advertisement manages not less than Rs3.5crore/day.Moreover it still being a free channel attracts more number of audience.Following the same way Kamat says, colours facing all odds will surely make it to number one.

Thanks for telling us. Although I heard so much about Shilpa’s house show Big Boss I had no clue which channel shows it. How is NDTV Imagine doing by the way?

Well Nipon, it’s doing well with shows like Lux Junoon Kuch Kar dikhane Ka, Unforgetable Tours, Radha Ki Betiyaan Kuch Kar Dikhayegi etc.My mom is quite regular with specially “Radha ki..”..but as you know reality shows gains more popularity, specially in a country where people far away want to know how their hero or heroines speak, eat etc..Colours has taken that advantage
