It was a post Dashami meeting and we all had our gung-ho zeal preserved in ourselves from the day we read Chetan Bhagat’s One night @ the call center and literally we had the phantasmagoria in front of our eyes.Yes, ‘Hello’,the movie on CB’s novel was to release and Nipon,Subhodip & I planned for the first day first show.As we had our final decision taken,I instantly went to the local theatre Ashoka and managed 3 tickets for us.Subho and Nips were just on time.We fastened our seat belts for the recapitulating journey.
It was 1630Hrs extra slot show. But to our utter dismay we all were jolted by the pathetic start..A dance By Sallu bhai,Salman khan. The composition(Bang Bang) made a smaller part of the audience to dance into its tunes.Salman here had the role of the author in the novel who was almost a dumb listener. On the other hand, the beautiful lady, the Goddess was screenplayed by the coveted Katrina Kaif(with profuse use of Veet as a mark of beauty). What I felt was director Atul Agnihotri didn’t have funds for the movie, and he readily characterized more or less all the Khan Family members, who could not make it up to the mark. The Train journey was turned into waiting hours of Rockstar Salman Khan, when suddenly Kat dropped in & asked him to listen to her story…
It was a vulnerable story, completed in a rush, and we had a gala time cackling and sniggering and of course finishing packets of chips and bottles of Sprite.
Before moving further letme introduce the cast:
Next part comprised of Shyam’s calling up his colleagues in the rainy night and then going to office which was ok type. But hardly there were any emotional bondage and proper continuation. The office even din’t look like a proper call center.Dalip tahil being such a veteran actor made a complete mess. Most horrible was Priyanka i.e. Gul Panag’s acting. If someone was to read the story after watching the movie,I would say one reason for his not moving forward and reading the book would be Gul’s acting.Even I would say she did injustice to the very popular scene inside the car in the parking lot. Moreover the scene having shot too immaturedly in the backdrop of another terrific item number by the ghostly Sohail Khan and his co actors made it perishable. Also while talking to her would-be-husband and in another soft sequence while proposing Shyam, her charisma was zero. The System guy played by Suresh menon wasn’t required at all and was making fun of himself.Amrita Arora i.e Radhika did try to do well, but the movie being some join-the-sentences-to-make-a-paragraph type, could not bring it out of her.
Lost love, thwarted ambitions, absence of family affection, pressures of a patriarchal set up, and the work environment of a globalized office- everything coudn’t be supplied in a proper package. And whatever still was there, music drew the ending line.It was a healthy evening inside the theatre though with all sorts of comments and gestures.I would ask people if you really want to watch a good movie, save your pocket money for Diwali Releases or this one is a good timepass.
